Turkish excavation team leader Gulgun Koroglu holds a stone fragment engraved with a cross.
Turkish excavation team has found a piece of Jesus' cross as relics. It was found in a 1350 old church when the excavation team unearthed the artifacts.
It is not sure weather the piece of cross is from the cross of Jesus or not. The thirteen century Christian might have venerated the piece of Jesus' cross embedded in the chest stone. This stone chest is very important to us," said excavation team leader Gülgün Köroğlu. "It has a history and is the most important artifact we have unearthed so far."
The true cross of Jesus has been discovered by St. Helana in Jerusalam. Later Emperor Constantine, the son of St. Helana, has distributed the pieces of the cross across the region. That is how it is believed that Jesus' cross can be found all over the world.
Later in the 4th century, St. Cyril of Jerusalem said the whole world "has been filled with pieces of the wood of the cross." St. Gregory of Nyssa said the wood had "saving efficacy for all men, though it is, as I am informed, a piece of a poor tree, less valuable than most trees are."
Many have come with the information that they have discovered Jesus' cross in many places. Because of this reason 16th century theologian John Calvin famously joked that if all the pieces were to be assembled in one place they would represent "a big shipload".
